Conferred by French ambassador Christian Masset, the award honors Mr. Toyoda’s key role in the Toyota group’s expansion in Europe, in particular its decision to locate an automotive plant producing Yaris/Vitz models in Onnaing, in northern France, and Toyota Boshoku’s acquisition of Faurecia’s car-seat plant in Somain, near the Toyota Motor facility.

Toyota Group is now the largest single Japanese—and Asian—investor in France, with nearly 9,000 employees and partnerships with many French companies.
