World Beer Awards: The Hauts-de-France scoops numerous prizes

The World Beer Awards have unveiled their annual ranking of the world’s greatest beers. Brewers from the Hauts-de-France did battle with hundreds of global competitors and won numerous awards. The jury presented prizes to six regional breweries, based in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais departments who won a total of 21 medals, including:

  • The Brasserie Lilloise (in Roncq): gold medal in the Belgian Style Blonde category
  • The Brasserie du Pays Flamand (Merville and Blaringhem): winner in the IPA category
  • The Brasserie Duyck (Jenlain): gold medal in the Belgian Style Strong cate-gory
  • The Moulins d’Ascq micro brewery (Villeneuve): gold medal for its Blanche
  • The Brasserie Lepers (La Chapelle-d’Armentières): silver medal in the Pale category
  • The Brasserie Castelain (Bénifontaine): winner in the Classic Pils and Bière De Garde/Saison categories

Of these six breweries, five are situated in the Nord department, making it the French department with the most prizes at this international competition. All the beers that won their category or were awarded a gold medal are now in competition for the World’s Best title which will be announced in September!

The Hauts-de-France, the number two region for beer brewing in France

These awards come as no surprise when you know that the Hauts-de-France is the second largest brewing region in the country with some 60 breweries. It contributes 30% of France’s national beer production, or six million hectolitres of beer per year. Learn more about the agri-food sector in Hauts-de-France.
