Arcelor Mittal Dunkerque investing in performance

The €31 million investment will enable the ArcelorMittal plant—located in Grande-Synthe, near Dunkerque—to add a hot mill train to its finishing stand.

Local plant recognized by executive team

The investment—a significant one for the Hauts-de-France plant—will be rolled out over the next three years, with the new equipment expected to begin operations in the last quarter of 2019. ArcelorMittal’s corporate leadership made the decision based on the plant’s overall reliability and its solid operational performance at the beginning of the year.

Impact

The Dunkerque plant will use the new equipment to: – improve performance – boost production of hot-rolled steel coils – expand the group’s offering of high-carbon steels—a range of high-value-added products

ArcelorMittal group

ArcelorMittal Atlantique-Lorraine (AMAL) employs a total workforce of 7,200 at eight plants: –  Dunkerque and Mardyck, both in Hauts-de-France – Desvres, Montataire, Mouzon and Florange, located throughout northeastern France – Basse-Indre in Brittany – Dudelange in Luxembourg. The Dunkerque and Mardyck facilities together employ a workforce of 3,640 and generate 1,400 jobs for subcontractors. With its three blast furnaces, the Dunkerque plant alone now produces around 6.7 million metric tons annually, and the new investment is expected to raise that to 7.1 million metric tons by 2020. Source: Voix du Nord, L’Usine Nouvelle
