€16M in investments for the construction of the Institut Faire Faces

At the end of January, Danielle Portal, Director of the Amiens University Hospital, announced an investment of €16 million for the construction of facilities for the Institut Faire Faces. The 4,500 m2 site will open its doors in 2021, beneath Amiens University Hospital.

The Institut Faire Faces was created in 2009 by Prof. Devauchelle and Sylvie Testelin, following their success in the world’s first partial face transplant in 2005. The construction of a physical site for the institute is the culmination of 14 years of research and studies on disfigurement and will make it possible for the program to continue its development.

Institut Faire Faces: Europe’s preeminent center for research on disfigurement

This multidisciplinary research and education site focused on maxillofacial surgery will answer the institute’s three-part mission:

  • Research: with dedicated modular spaces, an operating room for experimental surgery, a state-of-the art imaging/robotics/tissue engineering facility, and all the necessary equipment, which has already been acquired
  • Education: with an amphitheater
  • Changing the perception of disfigurement through an exhibition gallery, called “Another look”

Hauts-de-France: France’s 3rd largest healthcare center

The Hauts-de-France Region employs more than 31,000 in the health and nutrition sectors. The region is known for its excellence in multiple medical fields, such as e-health and research in neurodegenerative pathologies, cancer, and diabetes. It is home to qualitative training and R&D centers (Lille University Hospital, Amiens University Hospital, Pasteur Institute, etc.), which are part of the Institut Faire Faces.
