12 Aug 2013 | Investment, Mobility

The leading first-price non food retailer for the home and family in France Gifi has announced plans to build a new 72,000 sq m distribution center near Douai. The facility is scheduled to open in early 2015 and will create 200-250 jobs.

The Douai region has become a magnet for retail logistics, with Gifi’s new warehouse a stone’s throw from Amazon’s. Measuring 72,000 sq m, the new facility will handle 145 trucks a day, supplying all group stores across the northern part of France. Gifi plans to add around 100 stores in France—raising the total from 400 to over 500—and has chosen a strategic crossroads for its new logistics hub. With a highway network and regional ports within easy reach, the Douai region was the ideal choice for this ambitious new platform—a €35 million investment that will eventually create between 200 and 250 jobs.
