This year, MAGIC—a trade fair for gamers and web developers—organized its second video game contest, with a €100,000 prize earmarked for project development. And the 2016 award went to 3D Duo for “Epic Loon,” a strikingly original game in black and white that draws on horror classics from the 1980s and 1990s to target gamers in their 30s and 40s. “With this cash injection, we’ll finally be able to develop our game!” said Maxence Devoghelaere, founder of Plaine Images-based 3D Duo. Epic Loon is scheduled for release in 2017 on PC, Mac, Xbox and PS4.

Founded eight years ago, the winning team had already made waves locally with Leelh, a game set in post-apocalyptic Lille. Today 3D Duo has over 5 million gamers in 150 countries. With 30 employees, the studio has also specialized in distribution of free and pay-to-play virtual games, which generate sales of nearly €1.5 million.
