01 Oct 2019 | Front page, A region on the move

Hauts-de-France’s reputation as an attractive region for businesses has been confirmed by being ranked second for foreign direct investment (FDI) in France. The region is also holding its own against major players in Europe!

Investment, jobs, appeal

A marked increase in the number of jobs being created

In parallel with the FDI* ranking published by Business France, the IBM Global Business Services report ranked Hauts-de-France as the second largest region for FDI job creation in France in 2018. With some 6,800 new jobs created, the region comes almost at the top of the rankings, just behind the Ile-de-France.

The Hauts-de-France is also a head and shoulders above other regions in terms of the increase in the number of jobs created which rose by 26% compared to 2017, while the national average increased by just 8.5%.

*Foreign direct investment

Strong performance at a European level

The appeal of Hauts-de-France at a European level was also confirmed by the IBM study. It showed the region was well-positioned compared to other regions and countries, such as Belgium, the Amsterdam/Rotterdam conurbation and Lithuania.

The IBM Global Business Services report 2019 in a nutshell

The IBM study is based on real decisions made by companies on where to set up new operations or further develop existing businesses around the world. IBM's approach for measuring the success of each country focuses on those investment projects whose location is clear. This is the case for the vast majority of so-called "new" investment projects as well as new expansions of existing operations by foreign companies.
