€20 million investment in Gravelines

Befesa Zinc - Lille Region

Befesa Zinc — a subsidiary of Spain’s Befesa (Abengoa Group), a world leader in integrated recycling of industrial waste to extract metals — is currently putting the final touches on its plant at Gravelines, near Dunkirk.

This new zinc recycling facility will start up in June with 15 employees. “We’ll be working three eight-hour shifts through the end of 2012, and may move up to five in 2013,” says plant manager Denis Chevé. With 100,000 metric tons of waste to be recycled, headcount seems likely to rise; projections point to 25 jobs in a year’s time. The plant represents a total investment of €20 million.
