Vandemoortele invests €21m in Arras plant

30 Jul 2015 | Health Nutrition, Investment

Belgium’s Vandemoortele, a European leader in bakery products, is investing €21 million to add a third production line to its existing operation in Arras.

Vandemoortele: 2 sites in Northern France

Vandemoortele operates two production plants in northern France, both near Arras. The first dates back to 1998 when the group purchased a site from Croustifrance with four frozen and pre-baked bread lines. Strong growth followed and output soon reached 20,000 tons a year, sold in supermarkets and other large retail outlets as well as hotels and restaurants. Northern France is an ideal location, within easy reach of markets to the north in Europe.

€21m investment drives future growth

In 2009, with capacity nudging the limit, Vandemoortele began developing its second plant in Arras. The current €21 million extension adds a third bread line and 5,000 sq m to the existing 15,000 sq m surface area, and will boost annual output to 40,000 tons.

French presence a plus

Vandemoortele’s expansion in Arras and its new €21 million investment reflect the vitality of the Belgian group’s operations in Northern France. “We are very attached to France—it’s our largest national market,” said Jean Vandemoortele, who heads the family-owned group, in a 2013 interview. “And we definitely highlight the French know-how and expertise that are at the core of our offering.”
