The Center for Clinical Studies in Nutrition of the Institut Pasteur de Lille

24 Apr 2013 |

The internationally renowned Institut Pasteur de Lille spearheads nutrition research. It advances the study of links between health and what we eat at its Center for Clinical Studies in Nutrition, which is wholly dedicated to measuring the effects of food and nutrients.

Institut Pasteur de Lille's expertise recognized

For 25 years now, the Nutrition Department of the Institut Pasteur de Lille has offered its expertise to food-industry manufacturers as well as to local professionals and the general public through its information and education tools.

Fifteen years ago it began conducting clinical studies in nutrition at the request of industrial partners. These studies are intended to measure the effects of a food or nutrient on biological parameters in subjects, healthy and otherwise.

"That's why we've conducted studies on the effects of endive, calcium-rich water, a prebiotic, a cheese, margarine, foods and beverages with low glycemic indexes, grilled food, a marine food supplement, a spa treatment, a sensory education, etc." explains Doctor Jean-Michel Lecerf, head of Nutrition at the Institut Pasteur de Lille.

The Center for Clinical Studies in Nutrition

In late 2012, the Center for Clinical Studies in Nutrition was opened, further advancing the Institute's expertise and skills in the field of human nutrition and health.  "Given the importance of nutritional issues, and because of our expertise, we had to have a more suitable facility, taking into account the growing demand," says Jean-Michel Lecerf.

Today it's an indispensable tool, and it complements the efforts of the Nutrition Department to improve public health. It conducts highly varied studies on factors involved in the occurrence of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases (obesity, diabeters).
