Schaeffler to invest €20m in new Calais plant

German automotive parts producer Schaeffler Chain Drive System, specialized in chain drives, has announced plans to relocate to a new plant in Calais’s Marcel Doret industrial zone by summer 2013. The move represents an investment of €20 million.

This project fits into the company's growth strategy and ensures its long-term presence in the region. It is also expected to generate at least 50 new permanent jobs over the next three years. The new plant is at once more modern and more accessible, offering a better amenities for employees, smoother logistics and major productivity gains. Its layout is designed to accommodate future growth, including daily output projected to rise from 28 to 33 km of chains.

Looking ahaed, Schaeffler’s new plant will become the focal point for the group's chain drive production units, and will be stepping up its R&D efforts to develop innovative products.

Nord France Invest took part in financial engineering for the project.
