Northern France welcomes Europe’s only facility for the extraction, purification and analysis of natural molecules with health benefits.

PURIFUNCTION - Lille Region

<xml></xml> On December 16, 2011, work got under way on Purifunction’s new center for the extraction, purification and engineering of natural health ingredients. The only facility of its kind in Europe, the unit will ultimately house 1800 square meters of labs and a pilot line in the Eurasanté health sciences park, at the heart of Europe’s most concentrated hospital and university complex.

Launched by food industry majors and innovators including Lesaffre, Roquette, Ingredia and Copalis, Purifunction pools their expertise and know-how in new purification and extraction processes.

With unique expertise across a wide range of raw materials, Purifunction has a portfolio of over 20 complementary and innovative technologies.

Its services include contract development of new technologies and processes that are at once innovative, natural and sustainable. Purifunction also develops new ingredients and customized extraction/purification processes, produces batches of new ingredients to demonstrate the effectiveness of products, and provides pre-series and prototype productionPurifunction’s new center reflects Northern France’s drive to position itself as a European benchmark for nutrition and health issues. “We are positioning Lille as Europe’s leading region in nutrition and health,” says Etienne Vervaecke, head of the Nutrition Healthcare Longevity (NSL) cluster. NSL has over 75 members in the food, pharmaceuticals and biotech industries, all focusing on public health challenges such as the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of metabolic and cardio-vascular diseases and age-related neurodegenerative disorders.
