Pioneering savings account supports the third industrial revolution

    20 Feb 2015 | A region on the move

Introducing an all-new savings account—the first of its kind anywhere in France—dedicated to financing the third industrial revolution in Northern France.

savings account supports the third industrial revolution - Lille Region

A ground-breaking product for savers in Northern France—and beyond

Paying an attractive 1.75% a year on deposits of up to €1,500, Crédit Coopératif's new Third Industrial Revolution account is designed to encourage long-term savings by small investors and students. For larger deposits up to €100,000, the new account will pay 0.8%. All savers are eligible, with no minimum investment and no obligation to open a current account. Savings can be withdrawn at any time, and deposits are fully guaranteed by Crédit Coopératif.

The bank and its Caisse Solidaire spin-off will use these deposits to finance low-cost loans for entrepreneurs with projects promoting the third industrial revolution in Northern France. The new product will be launched nationwide on January 22, 2015, but potential investors can pre-register now at bank branches. To open an account, contact the nearest Crédit Coopératif branch or visit www.credit-cooperatif.coop (in French).

Financing third industrial revolution projects in Northern France

This new savings account rounds out traditional sources of finance, but focuses exclusively on business projects that promote digital innovation and renewable energy. Entrepreneurs can apply for loans at any Crédit Coopératif branch, and if their project advances at least one of the five pillars of the third industrial revolution—defined by Jeremy Rifkin as energy efficiency, the shift to renewable energy, energy-generating buildings, energy storage and the energy Internet, all aimed at promoting mobility and preparing for a sustainable circular economy—they may qualify for a loan, with a minimum €12,000. But beneficiaries get more than just a low-interest loan, since Crédit Coopératif will also provide flexible, long-term assistance for their businesses.

Traceability a priority in Crédit Coopératif’s alternative approach to banking

Crédit Coopératif makes traceability of funds a priority, and in keeping with the philosophy of the third industrial revolution, all deposits will go to projects that promote one of its five  pillars and priorities. By launching this pioneering savings product, Crédit Coopératif and the Northern France Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the Regional Council, are offering an innovative solution to individuals and businesses that want to know exactly how their savings are used.
