Belgium’s Ontex, the world leader in disposable hygiene products, has announced major plans to combine its existing operations in France at a new site in Dourges.

Ontex Healthcare France operates production plants in Arras and Wasquehal, both specialized in the manufacture and distribution of disposable absorbent products for adult incontinence. The group’s new plan calls for these operations to be combined at a single site in Dourges, allowing Ontex to optimize working conditions and continue upgrading production lines to better serve customers in France and abroad.

For Ontex, the move signals a major commitment to Northern France, with long-term benefits for both employment and economic growth in the region. The new building will cover around 30,000 sq m and represents a strategic investment of some €45 million in property, processes and production equipment. The move will secure 350 jobs.

Construction is scheduled to start in September 2015 and run through summer 2016, with production lines transferred gradually in 2016 and 2017.

Nord France Invest played a key role in coordinating the move, focusing on long-term employment prospects in the region.
