Nouvelles Vagues—an innovative hub for marine products

Already Europe's top seafood processing centre, Boulogne-sur-Mer will soon be a leading venue for aquaculture, too, with PFI Nouvelles Vagues—“New Waves” in English

Nouvelles Vagues - aquaculture - innovation - research - Lille Region - Aquimer

This innovative tech- and expertise-driven platform is backed by the Aquimer competitiveness cluster. Plans call for the new structure to be built between now and the end of 2014 at the Port of Boulogne-sur-Mer.

Nouvelles Vagues aims to harness expertise and know-how from business, research teams and universities, creating a unique resource in Europe for innovative projects. It will have two departments:

  • Technologies & Analyses, developing technology and quality control procedures for seafood, with a focus on promoting and guaranteeing product quality.

  • Aquaculture, specialized in aquafarming initiatives, and conducting scientific research to ensure sustainable growth in output, better management of energy, a reduction in environmental impacts and maximum control of health risks.

PFI Nouvelles Vagues will address trends in the seafood industry, aiming to:

  • offer advice and technical solutions to meet market and consumer needs, with contribute to the long-term future of processing industries.
  • enhance the value of all products from the fishing and aquafarming industries

  • contribute to lasting business development in the field, including diversification of activities, optimization of processes and productivity, better use of resources, etc.)

  • inspect and guarantee the quality of seafood from a health viewpoint.

The project is unique in France and strengthens Boulogne-sur-Mer’s hand as it seeks to become a leader in seafood.
