    Healthcare innovation in Northern France

For over 10 years, medicine had made no progress in treating cancer of the pleura, the membrane lining the lungs.

But now the Bio-MAPS program, launched by Dr. Gérard Zalcman in close cooperation with 70 French hospital groups, has shown that Bevacizumab is effective in treating pleural cancer, significantly reducing mortality risk in 23% of patients who were treated with it.

Dr. Arnaud Scherpereel, head of pulmonology and thoracic oncology at Lille University Hospital Center (CHRU) and coordinator of the Bevacizumab project, stresses that the treatment is equally effective in all patient sub-groups, including those with the worst prognosis factors.

As a result, this new treatment solution is becoming the first-line therapy for patients with pleural cancer.
