€3.2m investment in a new pastry line—pains au chocolat

Italy's Barilla has stepped up the pace of investment at its French sites since 2013, adding capacity and expertise. At the Valenciennes site in Northern France, it has invested €3.2 million to develop a new production line for pain au chocolat flaky pastries with a strip of chocolate filling. Called Pane + cioccolato to appeal to consumers in the company's target market—Italy—this new specialty is being positioned as a return to the authentic snacks we all enjoyed as children.
