Data protection—a new challenge for today's digital society

The figures are mind-boggling—144 billion emails sent every day, 30 gigaoctets published every second, 800,000 new websites appearing daily, and the sheer volume of data on the internet doubling every two years. And all that with only 42% of the world population connected! Yet with all the exponential growth, data is an increasingly vulnerable asset that is regularly attacked and hijacked. So in 2016, the 8th International Forum on Cybersecurity will focus on protecting privacy and personal data.

This year's themes will be tackled in workshops, presentations and demonstrations, offering attendees insights into to cybercriminals' latest techniques, conducting investigations, and the intricacies of legal procedure. Societal issues and digital technology are also in the spotlight, and at sessions on citizenship and new developments, attendees will learn more about cyber-ethics, new developments in public policy and the “right to be forgotten.”  The forum will address security issues facing business—a global issue that demands a global response. As cyberspace enters global conflicts, presenters will examine military challenges and attack/defense strategies. Attack demos, presentations of cutting-edge tools and R&D projects are all on the menu in a rich, dense program for all cybersecurity stakeholders.

FIC—how it started

In 2007, as the need for proactive response to the fight against cybercriminality became more apparent, France's Gendarmerie Nationale launched the first International Forum on Cybersecurity. Held in Lille—where pioneering work was already being done—FIC's international profile and readiness to identify and address essential themes quickly made it a must-attend event for all cyberspace security players.
